108 Years of Care: Celebrating a Century of Trust in the South Puget Sound
In 1918, when our founding radiologists started what would become TRA Medical Imaging, the South Puget Sound looked very different. What hasn’t changed is the reason we started: a commitment to giving our neighbors access to trustworthy, high quality medical care close to home.
More than a century later, that commitment still shapes every scan we perform and every provider relationship we build. This August 1, we’re celebrating 108 years, and we wanted to take a moment to reflect on what that milestone really means: not just how long we’ve been here, but what we’ve built with that time.
A Century of Investment in This Community
Longevity earns trust, but it’s what we’ve built with that time that matters most.
Physician-led, independent care
TRA has never been a satellite of a larger hospital system chasing volume. We’re led by the radiologists who read your scans, which means clinical decisions are made by the people accountable for your outcomes, not a distant corporate office.
Advanced technology, close to home
From MRI and CT to interventional radiology through TRA Endovascular, we’ve continually invested in modern technology so patients don’t have to drive to Seattle for care that should be available at home.
Growing to meet the community’s needs
That investment shows up in specific ways right now. This year we began offering CCTA (coronary CT angiography) in Tacoma and Sunrise clinics, giving patients a noninvasive option for evaluating heart disease without a hospital visit. We revamped our Lakewood clinic, moving it to a new, more convenient location for patients who depend on it. We brought diagnostic breast imaging services to DINW Sunrise, expanding access to breast health care closer to home. And we introduced TEMMA, a groundbreaking treatment option for patients living with chronic migraine.
Outpatient care built around you
Outpatient imaging means a calmer, more personal environment and meaningfully lower costs than hospital-based alternatives, without sacrificing image quality or radiologist expertise.
Partners with the providers you already trust
We work hand in hand with referring physicians and clinics across Tacoma, Puyallup, Bonney Lake, Gig Harbor, and Olympia, so your care team has the imaging results they need, when they need them.
Investing in the next generation
Through the TRA Foundation, we fund scholarships for students pursuing careers as medical technologists and sonographers, investing in the next generation of imaging professionals who will care for this community long after we celebrate our next milestone anniversary.
Roots that run deep
We’re not new to this region, and we’re not going anywhere. Our staff live here, raise families here, and show up for local causes because this is our community too.
Looking Ahead
108 years in, our promise hasn’t changed: trustworthy, high-quality imaging, delivered by the people who live in this community and are accountable to it. We’re proud of what we’ve built since 1918, and we’re just as committed to what comes next.
Thank you for trusting TRA Medical Imaging with your care, this year and for the last 108.
