Support for Student Athletes

Helping young athletes stay healthy, active, and in the game.

Every season, student athletes across the South Puget Sound work hard to compete, grow, and stay active. When an injury happens, getting the right imaging matters — but for some families, the cost can feel overwhelming.

TRA Medical Imaging and the Tacoma-Pierce Athletic Commission (TAC) have partnered to remove that barrier. Together, we’re offering free or reduced-cost diagnostic imaging for local student athletes who demonstrate financial need.

This program ensures no student has to choose between their health and the sport they love.

Who This Program Helps

This financial assistance is designed for student athletes who:

Are uninsured or under-insured
Have insurance that leaves them with high out-of-pocket costs
Are experiencing financial hardship
Need imaging to evaluate a sports-related injury

Eligible students may receive imaging such as X-ray, ultrasound, CT, or MRI, depending on what their provider recommends.

How to Apply for Assistance

Applying is simple. Families can submit a request online. The confidential application helps us understand your needs so we can determine eligibility.

The application asks for basic information, such as:

Student name, school, and sport
Details about the injury
Insurance status
Household financial information

Once submitted, a member of our financial assistance team will reach out to discuss your application and any additional documentation that may be needed prior to scheduling your imaging exam.

What Happens After You Apply

Here’s what you can expect:

Our team reviews your application and determines eligibility.
You will receive a Guarantor/Patient Information Form in your email confirmation that should be completed and submitted by your guarantor or parent.
We contact you to confirm details and answer questions.
Your exam is scheduled at a TRA location convenient for your family.
Results are sent directly to the referring provider for follow-up care.
