National Cancer Survivors Day: Honoring Strength and the Lifesaving Role of Diagnostic Imaging

Each year on the first Sunday in June, we recognize National Cancer Survivors Day—a time to honor those who have faced a cancer diagnosis and continue to fight, heal, and thrive. This day celebrates courage, raises awareness of survivorship challenges, and reminds us of the essential services that support patients throughout their cancer journey.

At TRA Medical Imaging, we are proud to stand with cancer survivors by offering advanced diagnostic and interventional services that play a vital role in every stage of care—from early detection and diagnosis to treatment planning, monitoring, and long-term follow-up.

Imaging: A Trusted Partner in the Cancer Journey

Imaging is often the first step toward a cancer diagnosis. At TRA, we offer a full suite of advanced imaging modalities designed to detect cancer early and provide physicians with precise information to guide decisions.

Our services include:

  • MRI, CT, and Ultrasound – Offer detailed anatomical views used to evaluate tumor size, location, and involvement of surrounding tissues.
  • PET/CT Scans – Provide powerful metabolic and anatomical insights for diagnosis, staging, treatment response, and surveillance.
  • Theranostics – Combines targeted imaging and therapy for select cancers such as prostate or neuroendocrine tumors, supporting a personalized treatment approach.

A Collaborative Approach: Radiologists as Part of Your Cancer Care Team

Our radiologists are more than image readers—they are integral members of your care team. They collaborate closely with oncologists, surgeons, primary care physicians, and other specialists to:

  • Interpret imaging results and provide detailed, actionable reports
  • Recommend next steps, such as follow-up imaging or image-guided biopsy
  • Participate in tumor board discussions to contribute to individualized treatment plans
  • Assist in selecting the most appropriate imaging techniques or interventional procedures based on a patient’s unique case

This ongoing collaboration ensures that your healthcare providers have timely and accurate information to make the best possible decisions for your care.

Interventional and Endovascular Services to Support Cancer Patients

Our endovascular specialists offer a wide range of image-guided procedures that support diagnosis, treatment, and symptom management. These services are minimally invasive, often outpatient, and tailored to reduce recovery time and improve comfort.

Procedures include:

  • Biopsies – Precise, image-guided sampling of tissue to aid in diagnosis or evaluate recurrence.
  • Port Placement – For patients undergoing chemotherapy, our team places ports to provide reliable access for treatment.
  • Y90 Radioembolization – Delivers targeted radiation therapy directly to liver tumors while preserving healthy tissue.
  • Kyphoplasty – A minimally invasive procedure to relieve pain and stabilize spinal fractures, often caused by metastatic cancer or osteoporosis.

Survivorship Is a Lifelong Journey

For many, life after a cancer diagnosis is a new normal. Survivors often face ongoing physical symptoms, emotional concerns, and a need for long-term surveillance.

To support survivors and those still in treatment, we offer:

  • Easy access to follow-up imaging with scheduling flexibility and multiple locations
  • A compassionate patient experience designed to reduce anxiety and promote comfort
  • Online tools like Patient Connection, which allows you to view reports, access images, and manage appointments
  • A commitment to clear communication and education so you know what to expect before, during, and after your exam

We encourage patients to speak up, ask questions, and advocate for their care. Understanding the “why” behind your imaging or procedure can make a powerful difference in your experience and outcomes.

Celebrating Survivors, Supporting Every Step

On National Cancer Survivors Day, we celebrate the bravery, perseverance, and resilience of all those who have faced cancer. Your strength drives our mission. Whether you are newly diagnosed, in active treatment, or many years into survivorship, know that we are here to support you with expert care, advanced technology, and a team that genuinely cares.

To all survivors and fighters—we see you, we honor you, and we are with you.

If you have questions about a recent imaging exam, need a port or biopsy, or want to know more about our cancer-related services, our team is here to help you navigate the next step.
